Panorama : fruit nets, Hong Kong, China

Markets and fruits are both ubiquitous in Hong Kong. Strangely, this goes hand in hand with an habit to wrap them in otherworldly foamy little nets, and I can’t really say if that comes from they reverence for fruit or their love for plastic. It’s perplexing ecology-wise, but it’s certainly rejoicing for the eye when you start noticing the surreal palette of color and textures on display at just any neighborhood stall.

We do have these nets in France too, but this kind of cushioned luxury is reserved for pricey mangoes, whereas in Hong Kong they’ll wrap just any fruit they can.

Impossible d’ignorer l’abondance de marchés à Hong Kong, et l’omniprésence des fruits dans ceux-ci. On pourrait par contre négliger de remarquer la coquetterie qu’on les Hongkongais de les emballer dans des filets de polystyrène moelleux. Difficile alors de déterminer si c’est plus motivé par leur passion des fruits ou par leur amour du plastique. On peut ensuite se lamenter du désastre écologique qui s’en suit ou bien se réjouir de l’incongrue palette de textures et de couleurs qui se laisse admirer sur le moindre des étals.

Bien sûr, on voit aussi un peu ces filets en France, mais à Paris, ils sont réservés aux précieuses mangues par avion, rien à voir avec la pratique effrénée observée à Hong Kong !
