So here I am, fantasizing about unreasonably hot weather. Things are normal again! And in the hot department, Alentejo in summer is serious business. The otherwise grassy and flowery heart of Portugal turns to straw in the summer, yet finds a way to be extremely beautiful. The high grass undulates in the wind like silky blond hair while the huge stones and the olive tree give the landscape a mythical tone I find really soothing.

The Alentejo region is in the southern part of Portugal.
Admittedly, I was a little a bit afraid of the summer heat there, but what I didn’t suspect was how much cooler the mornings and evenings were, which makes things far easier. Of course it helps if you’re staying at a place that’s built to outsmart the sun, like at the Villa Extramuros, where most of these pictures were taken.
Me revoilà donc à fantasmer des chaleurs impossibles…En somme, les choses sont rentrées dans l’ordre ! Et si on parle de vraies chaleurs, l’Alentejo au mois d’août, c’est tout de même du sérieux. Le cœur verdoyant du Portugal vire au jaune paille quand l’été arrive, et parvient pourtant à rester magnifique. Les herbes hautes et soyeuses ondulent dans le vent comme une chevelure dorée et le paysage est ponctué par des oliviers et d’énormes rochers qui donnent à la lande un air mythique incroyablement apaisant.

Je m’inquiétais tout de même un peu de la chaleur estivale avant notre départ, mais je ne savais pas alors que les matinées et les soirées y sont bien plus fraîches, ce qui rend les choses plus faciles. Bien sûr, c’est aussi bien plus agréable si l’on séjourne dans un endroit construit pour résister à ce soleil implacable, comme la Villa Extramuros, où la plupart de ces photos ont été prises.
